about

Cat. # NT6 originally released summer 2006

Nanny Tango presents the soulful, jazz, folk stylings of ‘Little Angel’ by Loretta Heywood. Loretta will be familiar to music lovers around the world for her collaborations with Bugz In The Attic, Afronaught, Major Force & for her UK top ten hit as singer / co-writer of the Bomb The Bass classic ‘Winter In July’.

Her soothing, sassy vocals & accomplished song writing skills have established Loretta as a major UK talent, comparable to new wave soul performers Alice Russell, Joss Stone & Adele.

The 7” single features 3 mixes of Little Angel:

Original version: a swinging, radio friendly, jazz-folk number, produced / written by Andy Mitchell & Loretta Heywood, taken from Loretta’s excellent ‘Boy Across The Road’ album.

Jung Collective Rehash: Alan Gubby creates a deep afro-funk groove with double bass, percussion & psyched out, digital glitching taking the song in a tripped out, sleazy jazz direction.

Oblique Remix: Gerry O’Rourke (Oblique / Loose Ensemble / Foundation Music…) delivers a sparse, electro mix with quirked out synths, reverberating vocals & a classic Detroit techno feel.

REVIEWS:

"soft, crafted pop / folk – the Oblique remix adds a tech feel with layers of synth & Jung Collective's afro-psychedelic "rehash" manages to transcend the original, pushing it towards 21st century tribal soul" DJOULS / TIMEC (France)

“smooth as you like soul jazz from the ever-dependable Miss Heywood, as she slinks her way around an end-of nighter for the smoochy crew. Jung Collective up the pace for a beat-ridden rerub, while the Oblique mix techs it out without losing the all-important soul. Cracking little package all round we reckon"
Cal Gibson / Neon Heights / iDJ MAG (UK)

“really like Loretta’s new single – the mixes are great”
Russ Jones / Future World Funk / Batmacumba (UK)

''brings back my faith in song writing, the original proving that great vocals, tuneful melodies and stripped down acoustic bizniz still cuts the mustard. Loving also Jung Collective’s rehash. Will be a pleasure to keep this in my box of delights.''
Perry Hemus / Woodland Records (UK)

“really like - deep & folky, great summer tune! For the dance floor I go for the Oblique mix, broken house beats fit perfectly"
Erik van Beek / Flyin' High Records (Netherlands)

“The original is reminiscent of Jim White. Loretta’s voice is the clincher. Oblique remix is a nice and unexpected change of pace. Nu-skool breaks + bass transforms it ideally for club play. Yet it’s the Jung Collective Re-hash that has me throwing my hands in the air,
every aspect makes me grin from ear to ear. Top one!”
Adam Kurzawa / Giant Step (USA)

“Loretta's is the voice every producer would like in his projects - smooth, emotional & mature. "Little Angel" is the perfect soundtrack for summer afternoons & radio-friendly winter nights. The original is a winner - you understand after 30 seconds! The Oblique mix is very interesting but what makes this 7" really different is the "Jung Collective Rehash". I just adore this - excellent for all eclectic sets"
Cayetano / Sala Sonora Records (Greece)

“pure wickedness!!! Well done”
Paul Gamblin / Heavy Mannas + Black & Blue Radio (Australia)

“really digging it – Loretta’s voice is magical & works perfectly on the slightly broken, afro jazzy Jung Collective mix. Also appreciating the original for home & radio play. Charting in my July Top 10"
David Borsu / Counterpoint Records (UK / Belgium)

“More dopeness from Nanny Tango - totally mesmerising vocals & a great tune in all cases of the mixes…”
Deisler / Tru Thoughts (UK)

“Jung remix: I just love it, from its warped start to the wicked percussion overdose - a very, very strong remix. Oblique remix is a fine one also. With the predicted exemplary artwork, this will be a very special 7". Show your love...”
Sammy Goulborne / The Other Side: New Style FM (UK)

“Little Angel is a 7" gem. Nanny 'finger snappin' Tango runnin' it!"
Raggy / Off Limits Radio / Straight No Chaser (UK)

“very nice indeed” Simon Harrison / Basic Soul Radio (UK)

“Excellent! A real nice folk vibe with organic, funky synthetics”
Richard E / Further Out Records (UK)

“sounds mighty fine – radio support & aural loving from us Cooks. Particularly keen on the Jung Collective's proper cosmic jazz vibes” James / Cookshop Records (UK)

“the jung collective remix deffo works the jazz floor - loverly work"
Max Reinhardt / BBC Radio 3 + World Service (UK / Global)

“Jung Collective rehash has really, really groovy broken beats in an afro style with the marvellous Loretta. Original mix is folky and sweet - I love this type of soul, very fresh, Oblique mix is nice & deep too!
Enrique Domenech / FusionNova021Records (Spain)

“a very nice song - Jung Collective Rehash has a great groove"
Q-Buns Abstract Message / Eighth Dimension Records (USA)

“feeling this, especially the jung collective and oblique mixes"
Paddy Freeform / Universal Vibes Radio (UK)

“wicked track - my favourite Nanny Tango release so far” Aldo Vanucci / Catskills Projects (UK)

“I'm just checking this shit out…it's really nice. My mam likes it too!"
Vincent Oliver / Vulver - Loaf Recordings (UK)

“really enjoying - will slot nicely into sunday sessions at the Bedford”
Jack Launer / Jack to Phono Records (UK)

“you turned "little angel" into a tricky breaker! I like the percussion and frippy guitars.Jung Collective sound good as always. big ups” Protassov / Switchstance Recordings (Germany)
